BCFA Summer Farm Tours - Peace Valley Lavender Farm coming up July 2

The Bucks County Foodshed Alliance and the Bucks County chapter of Buy Fresh Buy Local® presents the second in a series of farm evenings that introduce consumers to the local small-scale producers who put the freshest foods onto our tables via direct sales, community-supported agriculture operations (CSAs), farmers’ markets, farm stands and other venues.

On Wednesday, July 2, BCFA members, Bucks BFBL partners and all interested individuals and families are invited to Peace Valley Lavender Farm for a potluck meal and tour.

George and Patty Lyons began growing lavender on the old farmstead in 2001. They raise several varieties of English lavender and lavandins (natural hybrids of English and spike lavender). On July 2 they expect many of their more than 3,000 plants to be in bloom, coloring and perfuming the farm’s south-facing hillside.

With their plants’ raw material, the farm produces a wide variety of lavender products for culinary, medicinal and cosmetic uses. The farm’s retail shop will be open so that tour-goers can check out and purchase from growing plants, bulk blossoms, dried bunches, essential oil, bath & body products, pillows and sachets, herbal products for the kitchen and more.

The evening’s pot luck meal runs from 6:00 to 7:00pm, with the tour to follow. Visitors are expected to bring a dish to share with others and their family’s own eating equipment, beverages and seating, and they should expect to carry out their own trash. Although the farm tours are free, donations to BCFA’s programs are encouraged. This educational and entertaining event is appropriate for school-aged children who are under an adult’s careful supervision.

Peace Valley Lavender Farm is at 802 New Galena Road in Chalfont [Doylestown 18901, north side of Lake Galena]. Any cancellations due to severe weather will be posted on the BCFA website. For more information: 215.621.8967 or BucksFoodshed.org.

The series continues with one final summer farm evening:
