Doylestown Farmers Market is Hiring!

Job Title:​ Market Manager 

Reports To​: Market Committee Chair 

Hours​: Part time, 10-15 hours/week in season, 2-5 hours/week off  season 

Start date​: mid-January, 2020   


The Doylestown Farmers Market is an open-air market that features more than 30  rotating vendors local to Bucks County and the surrounding area. The market takes place  every Saturday, 8:00-1:00, from mid-April through mid-November in downtown  Doylestown, PA. The market features live music every week and special events  throughout the season.    

The Market Manager is a vital role for our market. The manager sets the tone and  represents the market both internally to vendors and externally to customers and other  market stakeholders. The ideal Market Manager candidate is a detail‐oriented, big thinker  with experience as an event organizer, attitude of a diplomat, eye of an artist,  entrepreneurial spirit, and the endurance of a marathoner. Must be willing to work every  Saturday between April and November, and commit to at least 2 years with the market.   

Job Duties:   

  • Collaborate with market committee on all aspects of market operations, including recruiting and organizing vendors, plotting the weekly schedule, and collecting  vendor fees, licenses, and insurance, and managing main market email. 
  • Supervise the market every Saturday, arriving by 7:00am for setup and staying  until 2:00pm for breakdown. Track market metrics, keep accurate financial records  of market transactions, reinforce market policy to vendors, and mediate any  customer or vendor conflict.   
  • Have a creative eye to design, organize, and execute all market outreach, social  media, promotions, and events. 
  • Communicate with market committee and chair about market conditions.  Collaborate with committee to innovate market processes and create strategies  for growth and partnerships.   


  • Dedication to support of our local food economy, knowledge of sustainable food  systems issues, and alignment with BCFA’s mission.  
  • Experience managing events and social media accounts. 
  • Proficiency in MS Office, Google Docs, email, and ability to generate compelling  and visually pleasing outreach materials. 
  • Ability to think on your feet, be independently organized, have flexibility, and deal  with customer feedback and conflict with diplomacy.   
  • Confidence and self-discipline to work independently and remotely. 
  • Ability to work outside on your feet in all weather conditions for 8 hours, do  physical setup of BCFA tents and tables, load and pull supplies from storage  location to setup spot.   
  • Understanding of basic financial skills (accounting, budgeting, etc.). 
  • Familiarity with government programs for farmers markets (SNAP/EBT systems,  senior food vouchers, etc.), and/or grant writing a plus. 


  • Market manager is employed as an independent contractor of the Bucks County  Foodshed Alliance at a rate of $15/hour for a total of about 330 hours over the course of  the calendar year (including both off-season and in-season hours).
