Symphony of the Soil Film Screening

The Bucks County Foodshed Alliance (BCFA) and the Bucks County chapter of Buy Fresh Buy Local®, in cooperation with Newtown Township, are hosting a showing of the documentary film Symphony of the Soil on Wednesday, February 4, at the Newtown Township Community Room, 100 Municipal Drive, Newtown, PA 18940, 7:00 – 9:00 pm.

Please register in advance for this event with Newtown Township: 215.968.2800, ext. 239.

The free showing will be followed by a discussion of soil biology led by Jim Lyons, organic farmer and founder of renowned Blue Moon Acres in Buckingham and the 63-acre farm and market in Pennington, N.J., where the focus on sustainability and soil biology results in disease-resistant, better-tasting, more nutrient-dense foods.

Each BCFA member attending Wednesday’s event will receive a coupon good for 15 percent off purchases at the Pennington market, courtesy of Blue Moon Acres.

As an added incentive to join BCFA and support its mission to build a resilient local food system through education and collaboration, BCFA is discounting by $5 any annual memberships or renewals paid by cash or check on Wednesday only, to $15 for individuals and $25 for families.

Symphony of the Soil, directed by Deborah Koons and released in 2012, is billed as an artistic exploration of the relationship between soil, water, the atmosphere, plants and animals. Drawing from ancient knowledge and cutting-edge science, the film also examines our human relationship with soil; the use and misuse of soil in agriculture, deforestation and development; and the latest scientific research on soil’s key role in ameliorating the most challenging environmental issues of our time.

Filmed on four continents, featuring esteemed scientists and working farmers and ranchers, Symphony of the Soil highlights the potential for healthy soil to create healthy plants that create healthy humans living on a healthy planet.
