BCFA Summer Farm Tour: Snipes Farm & Education Center

WHERE: Snipes Farm & Education Center
890 W Bridge Street in Morrisville

WHEN: Wednesday, July 1.
Dinner starts at 6 pm; tour starts at 7 pm.

WHAT TO BRING: For dinner: a dish to share, utensils, plates, cups, and something to carry away your trash with. For the tour: Please wear proper footwear (read: mud!) and if bringing children, they must be under adult supervision.

The historic Snipes Farm is a working farm and education center, now operated by the family’s 11th generation. The farm managed to retain its open space in Lower Bucks County as development overtook the formerly rural area, which sits atop what Susan Snipes-Wells, director of operations, says is the most fertile soil in Bucks County.

The farm founded the Snipes Farm and Education Center in 2008 and dedicated 25 acres of its land to becoming an outdoor classroom with the hopes of bringing their vision of, “a world where everyone has access to healthy food, open space and the experience of farming,” to the younger generations of Bucks County.

Snipes Farm practices perennial polyculture, an agricultural system designed to replicate natural ecosystems with the goal of producing a sustainable crop yield and restoring the health of the land simultaneously. They also practice intensive multi-species rotational grazing.  Their produce can be found at farmers markets seasonally or bought with a share to their CSA (community supported agriculture program).

On the tour, visitors will have a chance to see vegetables and blueberries, and maybe even meet the pigs of Snipes Farm.

There is rain in the forecast. Is there still a tour? Yes! If it's not pouring buckets at 5 pm, the tour is still on. Any cancellations due to severe weather will be posted on the BCFA website and Facebook page. For more information: 215.621.8967 or BucksFoodshed.org.

Do I need to sign up ahead of time? No! Just show up.

What if I don't want to do dinner? If you don't want to come to the potluck, no problem. Join us at 7 pm for the tour!

What do I bring for the potluck? People bring salads, fresh fruit, baked goods, snacks, casseroles, soups, pasta dishes, desserts - you name it. Bring an index card saying what's in whatever you bring so other people know what to expect.
